The Chef

Donnie Masterton began his culinary journey at the age of 15 under Chef David Bouley in New York and later mentored under Patrick Clark from 19 to 27. Masterton excelled as Chef de Cuisine at prestigious venues like Bice and Tavern on the Green, before opening Azie in the Bay Area to critical acclaim. He later went Hollywood to open Joachim Splichal’s Patina Restaurant in the Frank Gehry-designed Walt Disney Concert Hall then went on to become the Executive Chef, running the 18,000-seat Hollywood Bowl.

In 2002, Masterton fulfilled his dream of a simpler life by moving to San Miguel de Allende. There, his passion for food and wine blossomed into The Restaurant. Dedicated to quality, he sources from local farmers, ranchers, and artisans, preparing ingredients with skill, respect, and simplicity, defining his vision of world-class comfort food. Read more…

The Cusine

We support local, sustainable, and organic practices wherever possible. Changing the menu seasonally to highlight the freshest ingredients with the majority of our produce sourced from Chef Donnie’s farm, Ranchito El Garbanzo. Join us for our iconic Burger Night every Thursday, where we take over the menu with 15 hand-crafted burgers made with organic, free-range meat from Cañada de la Virgen.

Menus

Our inspiration is rooted in global comfort food. When Chef Donnie moved here in 2002, there were few options for global cuisine. He wanted to create a menu that reflected the authentic flavors of the dishes’ origins, highlighting some of his favorite cuisines from around the world. Donnie’s vision has helped shape the gastronomical scene in San Miguel de Allende, bringing a new culinary experience to the city.
